Social cohesion: Biebrich-Mitte

Biebrich-Mitte has been a program area in the federal-state program "Social Cohesion" since 2017. The urban development program aims to increase the quality of housing and life as well as the diversity of use in the neighbourhoods.

The urban development program supports the integration of all population groups and helps to strengthen cohesion in the neighborhood.

The Biebrich-Mitte development area covers approximately 109 hectares, stretching from Äppelallee in the north to the banks of the Rhine. The castle park and parts of the former "Soziale Stadt Biebrich SüdOst" development area are also included.

The Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK) Biebrich-MittePDF-File116,46 MB was developed on behalf of SEG Stadtentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH Wiesbaden by the planning and architecture firm Freischlad + Holz / Herwarth + Holz in collaboration with the Wiesbaden city administration, politicians, and Biebrich citizens, and was approved by the city council of the state capital of Wiesbaden in September 2020. The ISEK identifies the most important areas of action, such as cityscape, housing, environment, transport, social infrastructure, health, leisure, and participation. A total of 44 projects were identified that can be implemented during the urban development process and beyond.

Numerous measures have already been implemented in Biebrich-Mitte with the participation of Biebrich citizens, including the establishment of a neighborhood office (opens in a new tab) as a low-threshold contact point for residents, the modernization and expansion of the Betty-Coridass daycare center, and the redesign of the "Rudolf" playground. Current projects include the renovation and modernization of the Jürgen-Grabowski sports field and the redesign of the "Am Schlosspark" children's playground.

SEG Stadtentwicklungsgesellschaft Wiesbaden mbH, acting as trustee for the state capital of Wiesbaden, was responsible for inclusion in the funding program and program management. Since July 2024, this task has been taken over by the Office for Social Work, Department of Housing and Urban Development.
