Modernization of Jürgen-Grabowski-Sportfeld

The Jürgen-Grabowski-Sportfeld is located in the northern part of the Biebrich-Mitte development area, directly adjacent to the Wilhelm-Heinrich-von-Riehl-Schule and the "Rudolf" playground.

It is used by the Biebrich 02 and Biebrich 19 soccer clubs, as well as by the athletics departments of various Wiesbaden sports clubs and the neighboring school. In combination with the sports hall, the grounds offer numerous other clubs and private athletes generous training and exercise opportunities. Overall, the entire sports facility is an important area for the densely populated district of Biebrich, helping to foster a sense of identity and community.

The Jürgen Grabowski sports field is in clear need of renovation, indicating a comprehensive need for modernization. With funding from the urban development program "Social Cohesion Biebrich-Mitte," the outdoor fields will be comprehensively renovated and modernized from summer 2025 (until the end of 2026). The aim is to create a low-threshold offering for all citizens of the neighborhood through publicly accessible, modern, and traditional exercise programs and to promote access to health participation. The total cost of the measures is estimated at around 2.7 million euros.

The following measures are planned:

  • Renovation of the artificial turf field 2
  • Conversion of the red clay running tracks and long jump facility with a tartan surface
  • Paving of the entrance area, including green islands and a boules court
  • Erection of new barriers and a ball catch fence
  • Renovation of the rear entrance next to the renovated playground
  • Multifunctional equipment for a segmental arch

These plans were presented to the user groups and the neighborhood management and received positive feedback. A separate public participation process was also held for the redesign of the segment arch. A total of 92 citizens, including 80 young people, voted on which sports equipment should be used on the site in the future. Priority was given to a beach volleyball court, a streetball court, and table tennis. Currently, it is being examined whether a calisthenics facility can also be added.

The renovation of the sports hall and the grandstand roof is being funded by the federal program "Renovation of municipal facilities in the areas of sports, youth, and culture."
