High time for postal voting

Anyone who still wants to apply for a postal vote in the run-off election for Lord Mayor must hurry now. Election letters that are not received by 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 30 cannot be considered. The voter bears the sole risk that the postal vote is not received on time.

Anyone already in possession of postal voting documents should complete the ballot paper and ballot form as soon as possible and return them by post in the yellow ballot envelope or hand them in at the address given, Friedrichstraße 16.

Postal voting documents can normally be applied for up to 1 p.m. on the Friday before the run-off election. However, anyone who has to or wants to use the post to apply for and submit postal votes should note the postal delivery times. For example, anyone who does not post their application until Wednesday, March 26, should bear in mind that the application will not reach the electoral office until Thursday at the earliest, possibly not until Friday, March 28. If the application is processed there on Friday, the postal delivery of the postal voting documents will, in the best case, take place on the Saturday before the election.

In such cases, you should hand in your election letter yourself or have it delivered by a messenger to the electoral office at Friedrichstraße 16. This option should also be used if someone suddenly falls so seriously ill that they cannot go to the polling station. In this case, postal voting documents can also be requested and collected by 3 p.m. on the Sunday of the run-off election. The postal voting documents can also be handed over to a messenger. However, this person requires a corresponding power of attorney authorizing them to receive the postal voting documents.

Due to the short time remaining, the online postal vote application will be taken offline from Wednesday, March 26, 12 noon.

If postal voting documents have already been issued and sent out by the electoral office but have not reached the person entitled to vote, replacement documents can be issued at the electoral office. The ballot paper that has not arrived will then be declared invalid so that no third party can use it to vote. In such cases, only the electoral office can be contacted until 3 p.m. on election day.
