Roadworks in Emser Straße and Riederbergstraße
The road traffic authority informs citizens about extensive construction measures in Emser Straße and Riederbergstraße, which include the renovation of the sewer network as well as the renewal of water and gas supply lines and extensive road construction work.
During routine inspections, it was determined that the sewer system along large sections of Emser Straße and Riederbergstraße was in significant need of repair. Following detailed planning and coordination between the Road Traffic Authority, ELW, ESWE Versorgungs AG, and the Civil Engineering and Surveying Office, it was decided to also replace the water and gas supply lines and carry out a comprehensive road renovation as part of the rehabilitation measures. Originally, the entire construction project was scheduled to last until the end of May 2027. By combining smaller construction phases into a single large construction site, approximately six months of construction time will be saved. Combining the various works into a single large construction site minimizes synergy effects in terms of construction time and costs and secures the infrastructure for the long term.
The renewed closure of Emser Straße begins in calendar week 15, starting Tuesday, April 7, with the final construction phase and is expected to be completed by calendar week 47 (November 20). Work will initially take place from Emser Straße at house number 22 (Hellmundstraße) up to and including Emser Straße at house number 57 (Drudenstraße). The intersections of Riederbergstraße, Weißenburgstraße, and Drudenstraße will be fully closed during this time. Since Monday, March 16, Riederbergstraße has been fully closed to vehicle and bicycle traffic from the junction with Emser Straße up to house number 4 and is expected to remain closed until the end of June.
To ensure the work can be carried out efficiently and safely, a full closure of the affected areas is necessary. Detours will be set up and signposted in accordance with the agreed-upon traffic plan. Due to the construction work on Schwalbacher Straße, traffic coming from the east is already being diverted over a wide area via Wilhelmstraße and Friedrich-Ebert-Allee to the 1st Ring. Traffic coming from the west is being diverted starting at Dürerplatz via Seerobenstraße to the 1st Ring, then to Friedrich-Ebert-Allee and Wilhelmstraße.
Unfortunately, direct access to properties by private vehicle will be limited for affected residents and businesses during the construction work. However, access will be ensured through alternative traffic solutions and detour routes, which will be communicated on-site by the civil engineering firm in a timely manner.
The city regularly renovates roads, utility lines, and sewers. That is why there are approximately 5,000 construction sites in Wiesbaden every year. A map highlighting selected projects is available at wiesbaden.de/baustellen (opens in a new tab). If buses are affected, ESWE Verkehr will provide information on detours at eswe-verkehr.de. All of this work is an investment in the future. Without these projects, major damage would occur sooner or later, leading to more severe traffic disruptions. The construction project is being carried out in close coordination with ELW and ESWE Versorgungs AG, the Wiesbaden Road Traffic Authority, and several other involved agencies. We ask all residents and road users for their understanding and patience during the construction work, which is intended to improve the city’s infrastructure and ensure a reliable supply of drinking water, gas, and wastewater services.
