Discovery of a world war bomb in Erbenheim
During exploratory work in the area of the access road from the B455 to the Lucius D. Clay barracks in Erbenheim on Tuesday afternoon, May 12, a 500 kilogram World War II bomb was found. The defusing or controlled detonation is planned for Wednesday, May 13, 11 am. This requires an evacuation of an area of around 700 meters around the bomb until 9 a.m. on Wednesday, 13 May.
A map of the evacuation zone is available at wiesbaden.de/krisenfall (opens in a new tab). The entire evacuation zone must be evacuated. Approximately 50 residents are affected. Roads, dirt roads, and railroad tracks within the evacuation zone will also be closed. Also affected are, among others, the A66 between Erbenheim and Nordenstadt, the B 455, and the Wiesbaden-Cologne railway line. The A66 will be closed in the aforementioned area starting at 10:30 a.m.
Residents are asked not to call the emergency numbers 112 or 110 with questions regarding the evacuation. Instead, they should contact the citizen hotline at (0611) 318080. It will be available on Tuesday, May 12, from 8:45 p.m. to midnight, and starting Wednesday, May 13, from 7 a.m. until the evacuation is complete. Residents must leave the evacuation area on their own, for example on foot, by bicycle, or by car. For people who cannot stay with family, friends, or acquaintances outside the restricted zone, there is a temporary shelter at the Johanniter Rescue Station, Wiesbadener Landstraße 80-82, in Amöneburg.
Due to the defusing or controlled detonation of the World War II bomb, traffic disruptions are expected on Wednesday morning, May 13, particularly on the A66. There will also be minimal disruptions to bus service. ESWE Verkehr is providing updates at www.eswe-verkehr.de (opens in a new tab).
