Major renovation of Ellenbogengasse enters the final round

Over the past two years, ESWE Versorgung has extensively modernized the supply infrastructure in Ellenbogengasse. This involved laying new district heating and replacing the water and gas supply with new pipes. This work has now been successfully completed.

Starting Tuesday, May 26, the state capital of Wiesbaden will begin the next phase of construction: the complete renewal of the pavement between Neugasse and Marktplatz. The project is expected to be completed by the end of summer 2026.

As part of the work, Ellenbogengasse will be redesigned to match the existing pedestrian zone. The same paving materials used in the adjacent downtown area will be employed for this purpose. Additionally, several utility providers have recently requested that their supply lines be laid alongside the existing construction site. To avoid reopening the newly paved areas and placing additional burdens on retailers and residents as much as possible, this was taken into account at short notice. Even in cases of late requests despite prior coordination, the City of Wiesbaden is doing everything in its power to find pragmatic solutions and keep the impact on all parties involved as minimal as possible.

“The fact that the construction site on Ellenbogengasse is now entering its final phase is good news—especially for the local businesses, which have shown great understanding throughout the entire construction period,” says Andreas Kowol, Head of the Department of Construction. “I would like to express my sincere thanks for the constructive cooperation and support of all those involved.”

The work is being carried out in sections so that access to the shops and pedestrian use of Ellenbogengasse remain guaranteed at all times. Due to the limited space and fire safety requirements, construction work can only be carried out in sections of no more than 25 meters in length. During each construction phase, no delivery traffic is permitted within the active construction zones.

Construction site facilities will once again be set up on Neugasse. To accommodate this, the loading and delivery zone as well as the accessible parking space must be temporarily closed. The City of Wiesbaden is aware that the closure of the accessible parking space, in particular, causes inconvenience for people with disabilities. The accessible parking garage at Galeria Kaufhof is available as a nearby alternative.

The City of Wiesbaden is striving to keep disruptions to a minimum during the construction period and—where the construction schedule permits—to temporarily reopen sections of the street. The city thanks all residents, business owners, and visitors to Ellenbogengasse for their understanding and support during the construction period.
