Mayoral election

Next election date: 2031

Ballot paper
The Lord Mayor election was decided in a run-off in 2025.

The mayor is elected for a six-year term. The mayor serves as both chair of the city council and head of administration, and is thus the chief administrative officer of all civil servants and employees of the state capital of Wiesbaden.

The mayoral election is conducted according to the principles of the first-past-the-post system.

The candidate who receives an absolute majority of votes—more than half of all valid votes cast—in the first round is elected. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the votes, the two candidates with the most votes proceed to a runoff election in a second round.

Gert-Uwe Mende (SPD) has been Mayor of the state capital of Wiesbaden since July 2, 2019. He was re-elected in a runoff election on March 30, 2025.

The next mayoral election will take place in 2031.
