Chairman of the City Council and Presidium
At its constituent meeting on April 28, 2026, the municipal council elected a new executive committee. Dr. Gerhard Obermayr was elected Chairman of the City Council.
The head of the municipal council is a member of the municipal council. He or she is elected by the plenary for the current electoral term.
Their duties include setting the time of the meetings of the city council and the agenda, issuing invitations to the meeting in good time, chairing the meeting and exercising the right of order and domiciliary rights. The office must be exercised fairly and impartially; no political group or city councillor may be favored or disadvantaged.
According to parliamentary custom in Wiesbaden, the largest parliamentary group appoints the Chairman of the City Council.
In addition, as the first citizen of the city, the head of the city council assumes many representative duties.
Current composition of the Executive Committee
The City Council President, Dr. Gerhard Obermayr, is supported by the vice presidents of the City Council. There are currently five vice presidents:
- Sofia Karipidou (CDU)
- Thomas Schwarze (SPD)
- Nele Siedenburg (Alliance 90/The Greens)
- Songül Yüksel-Fener (The Left)
- Alexander Winkelmann (FDP)
