The Wiesbaden City Council is the supreme body of the city. It makes the important decisions and oversees the entire administration.
City council and local council elections 2026
The local elections took place on March 15, 2026. The current content of the Political Information System (PIWi) will not be available until after the constituent meeting of the City Council on April 28, 2026, at the earliest.
The committees of the City Council will be constituted starting May 5, 2026. The local advisory councils will be constituted within six weeks of the start of the electoral term (April 1, 2026).
Composition of the municipal council after the 2021 municipal elections
The municipal council oversees the entire municipal administration, including the municipal council. It elects the full-time and honorary city councillors. This does not include the Lord Mayor, who is directly elected.
The meetings of the City Council are generally open to the public. Admission tickets are available from the office of the City Council. Resolutions are generally passed by a majority of the votes cast.
City councillors can take up any municipal issue and submit motions to the City Council and its committees. In addition, councillors have the opportunity to put questions to the municipal council in writing or orally.
