Department VII - Department for Smart City, Europe and Order

Office for Statistics and Urban Research

The Wiesbaden Office for Statistics and Urban Research is committed to modern data analysis and contemporary urban research. We are part of Germany's first Smart City department and therefore strive to combine urban research and digitization in a forward-looking way. It is divided into the following departments

  • Statistics & Open Data As the city's central
information service provider, this department supports the administration and politicians in their planning and decision-making tasks. Here, statistical data on (almost) all areas of life is organized and made available to the public.
    Statistics

In addition, the department plays a key role in developing the open data strategy of the state capital of Wiesbaden. Open data encompasses the provision of municipal data in a human- and machine-readable form in compliance with data protection regulations. Public and free access offers many advantages for the population, the economy, the press, and science, thereby enabling an increase in the effectiveness of many processes within the entire city administration.

  • Urban research & surveys
The department focuses on the interdisciplinary analysis of urban structures and their development. Surveys, cartography, and other research methods are used to supplement the statistical sources available to the office with additional information and assessments. This allows potential areas for action to be identified and provides politicians, planners, and the public with well-founded information based on the latest research.
