Department VII - Department for Smart City, Europe and Order
Office for Statistics and Urban Research
The Wiesbaden Office for Statistics and Urban Research is committed to modern data analysis and cutting-edge urban research. As part of Germany’s first Smart City department, we strive to combine urban research and digitalization in a forward-looking way. It is divided into the following divisions:
- Statistics & Open Data
As the city’s central information service provider, this division supports the administration and policymakers in their planning and decision-making tasks. Here, statistical data on (almost) all areas of life is organized and made available to the public.
Statistics
In addition, the department plays a key role in developing the open data strategy for the state capital of Wiesbaden. Open Data involves the provision of municipal data in human- and machine-readable formats in compliance with data protection regulations. Through public and free access, this offers many advantages for the population, the business community, the press, and academia, thereby enabling increased efficiency for many processes throughout the entire city administration.
Open Data - Urban Research & Surveys
The department focuses on the interdisciplinary analysis of urban structures and their development. Through surveys, cartography, and other research methods, the statistical sources available within the department are supplemented with additional information and assessments. This allows for the identification of potential areas requiring action and provides policymakers, planners, and the public with well-founded information based on the current state of research.
