Apply for a driving license for passenger transport
A driving license for passenger transport is required if a person transports other people by motor vehicle for commercial purposes. This is the case, for example, with a cab, a rental car, commercial excursion trips and bundled on-demand transport.
From August 2, 2021, the local knowledge test for cab drivers will no longer be required. Instead, the legislator has amended Section 48 of the Driving License Ordinance (FeV) to provide for a specialist knowledge test that must be passed by drivers in order to obtain a passenger transport license. The term "driving personnel" includes cab drivers, rental car drivers and drivers who are deployed in bundled on-demand transportation.
The type, scope and content of this specialist knowledge have not yet been determined. It will be introduced at a later date.
If a driver's license for passenger transport can be issued, it will initially be issued for one year due to the lack of specialist knowledge.
