Regulatory offenses in road traffic
Information on Traffic Violations
In order to prosecute traffic violations in a legally sound manner, it is necessary to precisely specify the alleged offense and substantiate it with a complete body of evidence. Consequently, proceedings will only be initiated if the private complaint is accompanied by conclusive photographic evidence that clearly identifies and proves the violation.
Please note that only violations involving parked vehicles may be reported. You may send the complaint you have prepared and signed either by mail or by email to the Traffic Violations Office at the Road Traffic Authority.
If an administrative offense proceeding is initiated, your name will be listed as a witness in the proceeding. Please note in this context that, for data protection reasons, no information regarding the progress of an administrative offense proceeding will be provided.
To ensure that your administrative offense report can be processed, please note the following:
- The fields listed on the form are “required fields.” Complete and accurate information is required for each field.
- Please check only one element of the offense. If multiple elements are selected, the report will not be processed.
- The time of the offense must be specified to the minute.
- The written description of the incident must be detailed and clearly legible.
- The supporting photos must clearly show both the vehicle license plate and the violation (traffic signs, markings, etc.). If necessary, take additional photos and include them with your report.
- Please use only the official form.
- If multiple vehicles are to be reported for the same traffic violation, a separate form must be completed for each license plate.
The prosecution of traffic violations by the competent regulatory authority is based on the principle of discretionary prosecution. This means that it is within the regulatory authority’s discretion to determine whether a violation will be prosecuted and proceedings initiated.
