  • Advice and support in matters of youth protection and youth media protection
  • Target groups: Young people, adults and professionals

As the name suggests, youth protection is about protecting children and young people. The protection of children and young people is one of the three pillars of children's rights - alongside participation and care. Youth protection is about recognizing potential dangers and sources of danger in good time and finding and applying effective measures against them.

In concrete terms, this can involve various areas:

Youth protection in public:

  • Risk of addiction: Alcohol and smoking as well as gambling (risk of addiction)
  • Danger in the leisure sector: staying in restaurants and at so-called "dance events"
  • Protection from violence and crime

Youth media protection:

The use of media is also seen as a source of danger here (depictions of violence, pornography, but also media addiction)

A new Youth Protection Act came into force on May 1, 2021. Protection from media that are harmful to minors and impair their development is the top priority. Children and young people are to be better protected through age labeling of media (films and games).

Protection of young people at work: risks from part-time jobs, training and work

The Youth Employment Protection Act (JArbSchG) and the Child Employment Protection Ordinance apply to children and young people under the age of 18. This regulates the type, duration and scope of activities for children and young people. Further information on youth employment protection and the application for a permit in accordance with Section 6 of the Youth Employment Protection Act can be found at the bottom of this page under Links.
