"Der Blaue Reiter" is a circle of diverse personalities who made visionary contributions in the fields of aesthetic theory, painting, graphic art, literature, and music. With its two exhibitions organized in 1911 and 1912 and the almanac published in 1912, the group stands for a shift toward subjectivity in art, the liberation of color from the object, and the idea of the equivalence of artistic forms of expression across different eras, genres, and regions. As such, it was part of the international avant-garde movements preceding World War I.

To this day, the significant role that individual female artists in the “Blue Rider” circle in the development of modernism, what strategies and networks they established to lead a life as independent artists despite the prevailing social norms of the time—which were entirely hostile to them— and who were all these female artists—some of whom have been completely forgotten, with biographies that are now nearly impossible to reconstruct? These are the themes of the exhibition *The Blue Rider Women*.
