2026 Wiesbaden Culture Prize
For its outstanding commitment to youth and subculture, Kreativfabrik Wiesbaden is receiving the 2026 Culture Award from the State Capital of Wiesbaden.
This spring, residents of Wiesbaden submitted numerous interesting nominations for the Culture Prize. A jury has now selected Kreativfabrik Wiesbaden e.V. as the winner.
The jury, chaired by former Head of the Cultural Affairs Department Dr. Hendrik Schmehl, included representatives from the city council’s political groups: Nikolas Jacobs (CDU), Anou Kaiser (SPD), Sylvia Schob (FDP), Hendrik Seipel-Rotter (GRÜNE), Regina Wolf (VOLT), Elisa Stiller (Die Linke), and Oleg Knoll (AfD), as well as Claudia Hölbling, Director of the Cultural Affairs Office.
Outstanding Commitment to Youth and Subculture
Kreativfabrik Wiesbaden e.V. (KREA) is being honored for its outstanding commitment to Wiesbaden’s youth and subculture scenes. For more than 20 years, the association has demonstrated that a diverse, accessible, and non-commercial cultural program can be successfully sustained on a strong volunteer basis. With its diverse offerings, numerous established events, and a solidarity-based pricing system, KREA provides important impetus for active participation.
In addition to the criterion of diversity and variety, the jury particularly commended:
- the innovative and experimental approach,
- its sustainability through a lasting artistic and creative influence on Wiesbaden’s cultural scene, as well as
- its impact on the artistic and creative development and networking of Wiesbaden’s cultural scene.
Dr. Patricia Becher, Director of Cultural AffairsThe organization provides an indispensable, safe space for cultural experimentation and social exchange. It serves as a model far beyond the city limits.
In 2014, the Kreativfabrik Wiesbaden e.V. association, a sociocultural center, began hosting events on the grounds of the former municipal livestock market and slaughterhouse. The program includes concerts, parties, theater performances, lectures, and readings, among other events. In addition, the association rents rehearsal spaces to local bands. Since 2014, the skate park in the same building has also been affiliated with KREA. In April 2019, the association opened a kiosk in front of the building, the “Vogeltränke,” featuring its own music and cultural program.
The cultural award will be presented to the winner at the end of the year in the ballroom of Wiesbaden City Hall. The exact date will be announced at a later time.
