SVWW will once again compete in the 3rd Soccer League in the 2026–27 season.

Summer timetable

The SVWW summer schedule is set: The SVWW pros kicked off their preseason preparations on Monday, June 29, with a relaxed, open practice at Halberg. The first friendly match took place at the end of that week: On Sunday, July 5, SVWW faced Kreis-Oberliga club TuS Medenbach at the Helmut-Schön-Sportpark and won 20–1. The following week, on Thursday, July 9, at 2 p.m., the second friendly match against Regionalliga club FC 08 Homburg will take place at Halberg.

About 48 hours later, on Saturday, July 11, head coach Daniel Scherning’s team will travel to a training camp in Fügen, Austria. There, the team will undergo intensive preparation for the new season during a nine-day stay that runs through Sunday, July 19. Two additional friendly matches are currently scheduled to take place there.

Upon returning from training camp, a real highlight awaits: As part of its 100th-anniversary celebrations, SVWW will face reigning double champions FC Bayern Munich at the BRITA Arena. Kickoff is set for Saturday, July 25, at 3:30 p.m. The following week will feature the final tune-up before the league season begins. The first matchday of the 3. Liga is scheduled for the weekend of August 7–9.

  • Thursday, July 9: Friendly against FC 08 Homburg – Halberg, 2:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 11: Departure for training camp in Fügen in the Zillertal
  • Sunday, July 19: Return from training camp
  • Saturday, July 25: Friendly against FC Bayern Munich – Brita-Arena, 3:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 8: Matchday 1, 3rd League: SVWW vs. Preußen Münster

Season opener against Münster

The new season in the 3rd Soccer League begins between August 8 and 10. SVWW will then host Preußen Münster, a team relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga, at the Brita-Arena. On the second matchday, on August 15, Wiesbaden will travel to face newly promoted Kickers Würzburg.

Mockenhaupt and Kaya are leaving—ten departures so far

SV Wehen Wiesbaden and the club’s all-time leader in appearances, Sascha Mockenhaupt, are parting ways for the new season; his contract will not be renewed after nearly ten years. This decision has been met with bewilderment and more than a little disappointment, especially among SVWW fans. The club’s all-time leader in appearances is likely being sacrificed for the sake of the team’s future sporting direction. In addition, striker Fatih Kaya is leaving SV Wehen Wiesbaden to join Turkish first-division club Samsunspor—a significant blow to the team and certainly not an easy player to replace.

In addition, SVWW has since announced seven more departures: The contracts of Kevin Broll (1. FC Saarbrücken), Nassim El Ouarti, Ivan Franjic (Kickers Würzburg), Ryan Johansson (Preußen Münster), Orestis Kiomourtzoglou, Milad Nejad, and Felix Luckeneder (First Vienna FC) will also not be renewed. Jan Matthias Becker is also leaving SVWW and will be loaned to Kickers Offenbach for one year.

SVWW Signs Karweina and Hercher

Just in time for the start of preseason training, SVWW signed two new players. SVWW has signed Sinan Karweina, a new attacking player who comes from Swiss first-division club FC Luzern and has previously played in Germany for Türkgücü Munich and MSV Duisburg. In addition, Philipp Hercher has been signed. The forward joins on a free transfer from 1. FC Magdeburg and brings to Wiesbaden the experience of 97 games in the 2. Bundesliga and 133 games in Liga 3.

New signings: Max Brandt is the first signing – Hübner stays

The first summer transfer is official: SVWW has signed Max Brandt from former league rival SSV Ulm 1846 Fußball. The 24-year-old midfielder is moving to Wiesbaden on a free transfer for the upcoming season and has signed a two-year contract with the Hessian club.

Meanwhile, 35-year-old Florian Hübner has extended his contract for another year. The defender is expected to lead the team both on and off the field in the new season as the squad undergoes a major overhaul.

SVWW - Bayern Munich

Red Hesse Cup winners vs. red double winners: As part of its 100th-anniversary celebrations, SV Wehen Wiesbaden will host reigning German champions and DFB Cup winners FC Bayern Munich at the Brita-Arena on Saturday, July 25, at 3:30 p.m. The season opener against the record champions also marks the sporting kickoff of the new season campaign: “All in Red.”

DFB Cup against Leverkusen

SV Wehen Wiesbaden will host Bayer 04 Leverkusen—featuring former Wiesbaden player Robert Andrich—in the first round of the DFB Cup. This was determined by the draw, which was broadcast by ARD from the German Soccer Museum in Dortmund. The match will be played on Saturday, August 22, at 1 p.m. at the Brita-Arena in Wiesbaden, following the first two matchdays of the 3. Liga.
