SVWW: Only 1:1 against Saarbrücken - Tuesday in Stuttgart

On matchday eight, SVWW hosted second-placed 1. FC Saarbrücken and were held to a 1-1 draw by ten visitors. Matches nine and ten now follow in a week's time: Wiesbaden host VfB Stuttgart II on Tuesday. The English week comes to an end on Sunday with a home match against Munich.

1:1 at home against 1 FC Saarbrücken

Wiesbaden coach Nils Döring made just one change after the poor 0-0 draw in Ingolstadt and brought on Kaya again, leaving Mockenhaupt with just a place on the bench. It took until the 13th minute before the first dangerous situation arose, but Wiesbaden's Gillekens was able to clear the ball out of the danger zone. The hosts almost took the lead in the 19th minute, but Multhaup was able to save from Kaya. The first goal for SVWW came in the 27th minute through former Nuremberg player Schleimer. FCS keeper Menzel deflected a ball forward from Agrafiotis after a cross from May and Schleimer scored from a few meters out to make it 1:0 for the Red and Blacks. And the Wiesbaden side gradually earned the lead. After 38 minutes, Kaya shot at the FCS goal from just under 20 meters out, forcing Menzel to make a save. And just two minutes later, Sonnenberg was able to save from Kaya. And the eventful first half had another highlight, albeit a negative one, as Saarbrücken's Krahn was sent off with a red card in the 43rd minute after a light elbow strike. And after a missed shot by Saarbrücken's Pick, SVWW went into the break with a narrow 1-0 lead.

The decimated Saarland side had the first chance in the second half, but Stritzel was able to clear against Pick in a one-on-one situation. And the action continued. Just four minutes after the visitors' chance, Kaya got the better of keeper Menzel, but Sonnenberg was able to clear. In the 64th minute, coach Kaya surprisingly took the danger man Kaya off the pitch. And two minutes later, Wohlers hit Sonnenberg on the leg and an unclear penalty was awarded, which the lively Pick converted to make it 1:1 for ten Saarbrücken players. The game was soon over for Wohlers and Mockenhaupt was allowed onto the pitch after all. And after a long period of rest, the ball was in the Saarbrücken goal in the 81st following a Flotho challenge, but play had been interrupted earlier. And just two minutes later, Wiesbaden were awarded a penalty, but the fouled Schleimer was denied by Menzel, as goalkeeper Kaya was unfortunately already on the bench. After the missed penalty, the air was out. SVWW gave away a win against a decimated Saarbrücken side and even the changes could not have a positive impact on the game. With just twelve points from eight games, SVWW are already ten points behind league leaders Duisburg and five points behind second-placed Saarbrücken.

Next double matchday: First in Stuttgart, then against 1860

SVWW do not have long to lick their wounds, as the English week begins on Tuesday, September 30, at 7 p.m. with a match at VfB Stuttgart II. The small Stuttgart side lost 5-0 at Energie Cottbus on the last matchday and will be fighting to make amends. But SVWW would have to win against VfB once again, otherwise the battle for the promotion places will take place early in the season without coach Döring's SVWW.

The English week comes to an end with a home match against TSV 1860 Munich on Sunday, October 5, at 4:30 pm.
