SVWW: Season is over - planning begins
SV Wehen Wiesbaden go into the summer break in ninth place after their last league game - 2:0 against Hoffenheim II - and won the Hessen Cup at the end. Now the planning for the new season in the 3rd division begins.
Mockenhaupt has to go - Seven more departures
SV Wehen Wiesbaden and club captain Sascha Mockenhaupt will part ways at the end of this season; his contract will not be renewed after nearly ten years. This decision has been met with incomprehension and deep disappointment, particularly among SVWW fans. The club’s longest-serving player appears to be being sacrificed for the sake of the team’s future sporting direction.
In addition, SVWW has since announced seven more departures: The contracts of Kevin Broll, Nassim El Ouarti, Ivan Franjic, Ryan Johansson, Orestis Kiomourtzoglou, Milad Nejad, and Felix Luckeneder will also not be renewed.
New additions: Max Brandt first addition
The first summer transfer is official: SVWW has signed Max Brandt from former league rival SSV Ulm 1846 Fußball. The 24-year-old midfielder is moving to Wiesbaden on a free transfer for the upcoming season and has signed a two-year contract with the Hessian club.
SVWW retains coaching team
SVWW has extended the contracts of assistant coaches Frank Steinmetz and Giuliano Modica, goalkeeper coach Mohamed Amsif, athletic trainer Dominik Hönig, and match analyst Phil Weimer. As a result, the coaching staff led by head coach Daniel Scherning and assistant coach Andreas Zimmermann will remain unchanged for the upcoming season.
Season finale: 2:0 against Hoffenheim II
Wehen Wiesbaden coach Daniel Scherning made two changes from the 1-2 loss in Cottbus, bringing in Schleimer and Suarez for Kalem and Bogicevic. Playing in front of fewer than 3,700 fans in their season finale, Wiesbaden got off to a solid start and had an early chance through outgoing player Mockenhaupt, before Kaya was denied by TSG goalkeeper Petersson. So, for the time being, they were unable to take the lead. Schleimer also squandered two good opportunities by the 25th minute. After 20 minutes of stalemate, however, striker Kaya finally scored the 1-0 goal in the 45th minute. The teams went into the final break of the season with this narrow lead.
SVWW was desperate to end its nine-game winless streak and had a chance as early as the 47th minute, but Lewald hit the crossbar. Then, in the 52nd minute, it was Gözüsirin who sealed the deal with his goal to make it 2-0. After that, the game petered out, and there was only one more highlight: Mockenhaupt was substituted in his final league match and celebrated by the fans. SVWW ultimately won 2-0, ending their winless streak and finishing in ninth place after a disappointing second half of the season.
