SVWW: Pre-season preparations for the new season in the 3rd division

SVWW's summer break is over and the team is preparing for the new season, which begins on August 3 at home against Ulm. And next Saturday, July 26, the dress rehearsal against Arnhem awaits the team. In the DFB Cup, the big FC Bayern Munich comes on August 27.

Match schedule published - start against relegated Ulm

The DFB has now published the fixture list for the new season and scheduled the first nine games. SVWW will kick off the new 2025/26 season on Sunday, August 3, at 7:30 p.m. with a home match against SSV Ulm 1846, who were relegated from the two divisions. A week later, SVWW will travel to SC Verl on Saturday, August 9, at 4:30 p.m.

Preparation

Now the ball has been rolling again at SVWW for three weeks: The first test for the new team was already on the program on 28 June, when TSG Wörsdorf was beaten 10:0. Less than a week and numerous hard training sessions later, another match awaited on July 4 against future league rivals 1899 Hoffenheim II, which was clearly won 3:0. The training camp then took place in Fügen in Zillertal until July 13. There, the second division team FC Schalke 04 was beaten 3:2 in the final. Training has now resumed at the Halberg since July 14, with the last tests being lost against Kickers Offenbach (0:1) and Steinbach Haiger (0:1).

Fan festival and dress rehearsal against Arnhem

Big season opening on the weekend before the start of the third division! SVWW will celebrate its traditional fan festival in the Brita-Arena on Saturday, July 26. As part of the official season opener, the Red & Blacks will face Dutch second division side Vitesse Arnhem, who are coached by former SVWW coach Rüdiger Rehm.

In the meantime, numerous decisions have also been made for the new 2025/26 season: veteran Sascha Mockenhaupt will remain in Wiesbaden for the coming season, while Hübner, Fechner and reserve keeper Brdar have also extended their contracts. Florian Carstens, Nick Bätzner and Bjarke Jacobsen have found new clubs, with Carstens moving to league rivals Hansa Rostock, Bätzer to Paderborn in the Bundesliga 2 and Jacobsen to VfL Osnabrück. Thijmen Goppel (Bali United) has also left SVVW. In addition, Amin Farouk (FSV Frakfurt), Arthur Lyska (SV Sandhausen), Nico Rieble and Emanuel Taffertshofer are looking for new challenges and will no longer be active at SVWW next season. The two defenders Marius Wegmann and Felix Luckenender could also leave the club this summer. That would be ten departures.

The new goalkeeping coach has also now been decided, with former stand-in keeper Mohamed Amsif ending his career and taking over the role from the departing Marjan Petkovic.

In the meantime, numerous new signings for the coming season have also been confirmed: SVWW has signed the midfielder and captain of Hamburger SV II, Milad Nejad Haji Lor, as well as another midfielder, Robin Kalem, from Hannover 96 II. The third new signing is Niklas May from league rivals Viktoria Köln, who comes to SVWW with the recommendation of 114 third division games. Also joining SVWW from Viktoria Köln is attacking midfielder Donny Bogicevic until 2027. Young keeper Finn Ludwig, talented defender Tim Neubert and young striker Jan Matthias Becker have signed their first professional contracts. And with Simon Stehle, another attacker has come to Wiesbaden from 1. FC Saarbrücken. The latest and sixth addition comes from abroad for the first time. The Hessians landed central defender Jordy Gillekens from the Belgian second division. Next new signing confirmed! SVWW have secured the services of Lukas Schleimer, the striker joins SVWW on a free transfer from second division side 1. FC Nürnberg.

DFB Cup against Bayern Munich

And the cup draw has now produced a dream draw for SVWW: in the first round, the team will face German champions and record cup winners FC Bayern Munich at home on Wednesday, August 27 at 8:45 pm. On this day, the Brita-Arena is sure to be filled to the last seat and there will be plenty of soccer celebrities in the Hessian state capital. The match will also be one of four to be broadcast live on free-to-air TV (ARD or ZDF).
