The biodiversity strategy for Wiesbaden

The diversity of life and habitats is precious. And the possibilities for preserving and promoting it are as diverse as biodiversity itself.

Wiesbaden is developing a biodiversity strategy.

Microorganisms and fungi purify water and air, turn minerals and dead matter into fertile soil.

Plants produce oxygen, cool on hot summer days, feed us as well as insects and delight the senses with their beauty and fragrances.

Animals pollinate flowers, spread seeds, supply the soil with air, water and nutrients, sing and hum.

And everything is connected to everything else. That is biodiversity.

We humans are part of it. We live in, with and from the biodiversity around and within us. And we influence it, both positively and negatively.

It is worth becoming aware of this and preserving this beautiful and valuable treasure in the long term. For this reason, Wiesbaden is working on its own biodiversity strategy.

Development and structure of the Wiesbaden biodiversity strategy

Based on the current situation, measures will be developed and implemented to promote biodiversity, taking into account as many facets and influencing factors as possible. The Wiesbaden biodiversity strategy will therefore consist of several modules:

  • "Raising awareness"
  • "Habitats in the settlement area"
  • "Habitats in outdoor areas"
  • "Cross-sectional habitats"
  • "Municipal cross-sectional task"
  • "Economy and leisure"

The biodiversity strategy is being developed with the participation of all stakeholders and groups involved in the respective topic areas and under the leadership of the Environmental Agency of the City of Wiesbaden.

The first step is the "Raising awareness" module, which was started at a kick-off event on May 21, 2025.
