Noise protection rules for outdoor public viewing
During the World Cup from June 11 to July 19, permits can be issued in Wiesbaden for exceptions to noise protection for public outdoor broadcasts. Applicants must comply with certain requirements.
The state capital is looking forward to a festive and peaceful atmosphere during the World Cup. Due to the time difference with North America, many matches will take place late in the evening and at night. Special regulations apply to outdoor public viewing events.
Based on the current “Public Viewing Ordinance” passed by the Bundestag and Bundesrat, permits for exemptions from noise protection regulations may be granted in Wiesbaden for public outdoor broadcasts. These allow fans to watch the matches together outdoors even after the usual nighttime quiet hours. However, the granting of a permit for outdoor events in Wiesbaden is subject to specific time restrictions:
- In the preliminary round, an exemption from noise protection regulations may be granted if a match begins no later than 10 p.m. from Monday through Thursday. On Fridays and Saturdays, the latest match must begin by 11 p.m.
- In the knockout stage, i.e., starting with the round of 32, an exemption may be granted if the kickoff takes place by 11 p.m.
- On Sundays, 10 p.m. is the latest start time for matches throughout the World Cup.
For all time regulations, the noise protection exemption applies until the end of the respective match.
The city notes that special permits for outdoor events will be granted exclusively for matches within this specified time window. For matches whose kickoff times fall after the times mentioned above, no permits for outdoor events may be issued. This regulation serves to strike the necessary balance between the public interest in the event and the protection of residents from excessive noise.
Important for event organizers, restaurants, and clubs:
There is no blanket permit for the duration of the World Cup. Each application for an exemption from noise protection regulations will be reviewed individually by the City of Wiesbaden with regard to the local impact of the event.
Interested parties are required to submit their applications to the City of Wiesbaden’s Environmental Office at laerm-und-luftwiesbadende. It is recommended that applications be submitted up to five business days before a match to ensure timely processing and planning certainty.
