Since October 14, 2025, all projects that only involve the demolition or removal of a building or structure have been exempt from planning permission in accordance with Section 63 a of the Hessian Building Code (HBO).

Exception
If a new building is to be erected at the same time and a permit is required for the new construction project, the demolition is automatically included in the building permit procedure.
Note
If your project involves demolition that requires notification, work may only begin after the one-month period has expired.
The new regulation only affects the building permit requirement. Other permits under public law regulations—for example, relating to the protection of monuments, nature, or species—remain in place.
Particularly important: Many buildings in Wiesbaden are listed as historical monuments (individual cultural monuments, ensembles, environmental protection). Please check with the lower monument protection authority to clarify whether your project (demolition) requires a monument protection permit.
