Mourning for Dieter Breuer

Dieter Breuer, former and long-time publisher of the Erbenheimer Anzeiger, passed away on Saturday, April 26, at the age of 88. The state capital of Wiesbaden has received the news of his death with great sadness.

"As editor of the Erbenheimer Anzeiger, which he published together with his wife, Dieter Breuer played a decisive role in shaping the press landscape of our town. In this role, he kept people in the 'Ländchen' informed about social life in our eastern suburbs for decades. His work and life's achievements are inextricably linked to events and the community in his home town. Our thoughts are with his wife and daughter as well as his other relatives, to whom we express our deepest condolences," said Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende.

Dieter Breuer was born in Breslau, Poland, in 1936 and came to Wiesbaden after the war, where he met his wife Marianne. The couple published several books and brochures in their own publishing house from 1964 until they acquired the Erbenheimer Anzeiger in 1981. Other publications such as the "Wiesbaden Times", which appeared for members of the US Army Base, and the first German-Polish newspaper in Wrocław, "Gazeta Zachodnia", were also among the Breuers' projects. The couple retired in 2023. Marianne and Dieter Breuer were awarded the "Wiesbaden Lily" in 2024 for their outstanding services.

Dieter Breuer was also committed to his community outside of his professional activities: in 1983, he was one of the co-founders of the Erbenheim local history museum and was also involved in the board of TV Erbenheim.

"With the death of Dieter Breuer, our city has lost a highly esteemed and committed entrepreneur and person. Wiesbaden is deeply indebted to him and will honor his memory," Mende concluded.
