Southern Section of the Moabiter Straße Children's Playground Reopens After Renovation

The newly redesigned southern section of the Moabiter Straße children's playground in the Erbenheim neighborhood has officially reopened.

As part of the renovation, the playground equipment—some of which was heavily worn and had already been removed for safety reasons—was replaced. The result is a modern and versatile playground that offers children a variety of play, movement, and climbing experiences while also enhancing the overall experience for families. Construction work lasted from fall 2025 to spring 2026.

Mayor Christiane Hinninger says: “A playground is especially important in this densely built-up residential area. There are fewer play areas in Erbenheim than we would like and than the children actually need. This makes it all the more important to preserve and renovate the existing play and open spaces and design them in a way that meets the current needs of children and families. That is exactly what we have done here.”

In the center of the playground is a large climbing and balancing structure featuring climbing nets, ropes, a slide, a climbing pole, a climbing wall, and a treehouse. The playground is complemented by various swings, a zip line, a ground trampoline, and an inclusive standing seesaw.

Children, parents, and interested residents contributed their ideas, wishes, and needs during the public participation process.

An important aspect of the redesign was ensuring inclusive and barrier-free access. Children with and without disabilities can use the playground together. Caregivers, older adults, and people with limited mobility can also move around the grounds with ease.

New picnic tables, benches, and other seating areas provide space to linger and socialize. There are bicycle parking facilities at the Moabiter Straße entrance. The old trees and shrubs have been preserved and provide shade, especially in the summer. A total of approximately 500,000 euros was invested in the playground’s redesign.
