Wiesbaden is testing a smart solution for delivery zones as part of the European innovation program “Raptor” 2026

The state capital of Wiesbaden is one of 14 European cities testing innovative mobility solutions under real-world conditions as part of EIT Urban Mobility’s “Raptor” 2026 (Rapid Applications for Transport) innovation program. Together with the French company Dencity France, Wiesbaden will test a smart solution for analyzing and optimizing the use of delivery zones in the city over the coming months.

The goal of the pilot project is to gather reliable data on the use of existing delivery zones. Among other things, the project will track and analyze utilization rates, usage times, vehicle types, and potential misallocations. The insights gained are intended to help the city further develop its logistics areas based on data and make commercial traffic more efficient. 

“A well-functioning urban logistics system is a key component of a livable and economically strong city. By participating in the ‘Raptor’ program, Wiesbaden has the opportunity to test innovative technologies under real-world conditions and gain insights for the future design of our delivery zones,” explains Andreas Kowol, Head of the Transportation Department. 

The pilot will initially focus on existing delivery zones in downtown Wiesbaden. Based on the data collected, usage patterns will be identified and recommendations for optimizing the existing network will be developed. In addition, the project may provide insights into which locations will have additional demand for delivery zones in the future. 

Participation in “Raptor” underscores Wiesbaden’s commitment to smart, digital, and sustainable mobility development. The program brings together European cities with innovative startups and small and medium-sized enterprises to develop and test practical solutions for local mobility challenges within six months. This year’s projects address topics including electric mobility, urban logistics, traffic safety, public transit, and data-driven decision-making processes. 

The pilot phase will run from July through December 2026. During this period, the state capital of Wiesbaden and Dencity France will work closely together to test the solution under real-world conditions and evaluate its practical feasibility. The results are intended to serve as a basis for future decisions in the areas of urban logistics and the efficient use of public road space.
