Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

"SAP4HANA Wiesbaden" project successfully completed

The state capital of Wiesbaden has successfully completed the major "SAP4HANA Wiesbaden" project after around three years.

The go-live on January 1, 2026, took place on schedule and ran smoothly. With the transition to S/4HANA, the administration’s accounting and procurement processes will be streamlined, workflows will be standardized and automated, and manual tasks and sources of error will be reduced.

“With the SAP S/4HANA platform, we see ourselves as future-proof and well-positioned technologically, and we will continue to expand the resulting culture of innovation in the future,” emphasizes Mayor and Head of the Digitalization Department Christiane Hinninger. With the completion of the project, a major milestone in the state capital’s ambitious digitalization portfolio has been successfully achieved.

During the project completion celebration at Tattersall in Wiesbaden, Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende thanked all participants from the administration, municipal enterprises, the city’s IT service provider Wivertis, and the consulting firm Nagarro ES for their exceptional dedication: “This project was only possible thanks to the tremendous effort of many colleagues in addition to their day-to-day work. As a city, we can be very proud of this.” Wiesbaden is among the few organizations that have been able to implement a transformation of this magnitude within the time, budget, and quality parameters, Mende affirmed. This was fully confirmed by the project management team at Nagarro ES, the experienced SAP consulting firm that had supported the project.

City Treasurer Dr. Hendrik Schmehl highlighted the professional project organization and cross-departmental collaboration: “Clear structures, reliable decision-making processes, and a strong project team were the key to success.” He particularly emphasized the high level of technical expertise, the commitment of the employees, and the excellent cutover and migration management.

With the introduction of SAP S/4HANA and innovative solutions such as SAP Analytics Cloud, the city is significantly improving its management capabilities. “We are thereby creating a modern foundation for budget planning, forecasting, and transparent reporting,” said Schmehl.

New standards have also been set in the areas of training and change management. Mayor Mende explained: “With modern learning formats and strong change management, we have laid the groundwork for high acceptance within the administration.”

Recognition has also come from SAP: The “SAP4HANA Wiesbaden” migration project will be honored by SAP as one of the winners in the category of large-scale transformation projects at the SAP Quality Awards ceremony on June 3, 2026.

With the Quality Awards, SAP annually honors successful implementation projects that are distinguished by high quality and efficiency.
