Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

Bus lane on the 1st Ring temporarily closed due to road damage

Since Friday morning, September 11, the bus lane on the 1st Ring heading toward the Central Station between Scheffelstraße and Schenkendorfstraße has been closed for several days over a stretch of about 60 meters. The closure is due to deep ruts that formed as a result of heat and heavy traffic. Traffic safety can no longer be guaranteed in this area.

Next week, the affected area will first be temporarily repaired to restore traffic safety in the short term. However, a complete renovation of this section is unavoidable. This can take place as soon as the necessary decisions have been made and funding has been secured.

ESWE Verkehr has set up a temporary bus stop to serve passengers while the Scheffelstraße stop is closed.

The bus lanes on the 1st Ring are generally in poor structural condition and must therefore be completely renovated in stages. The heavy traffic from public bus service, as well as increasingly hot summers, place special demands on the road surface. For this complete renovation, a concrete construction method is therefore planned for the bus lanes. It is better suited to the high and frequent stresses caused by bus traffic, as well as to high temperatures, than conventional asphalt paving.

The state capital of Wiesbaden asks road users for their understanding regarding the necessary restrictions. The phased renewal of the bus lanes is necessary to ensure their long-term traffic safety and functionality.
