The local elections were held on March 15, 2026.

Official final result for the city council election

The electoral system is a proportional representation system combined with a personal vote. All eligible voters have as many votes as there are seats to be filled: in Wiesbaden, 81 votes for the election of the City Council, between five and 17 votes for the election of the respective local advisory board (depending on the population), and 31 votes for the election of the Foreign Residents’ Advisory Board. Eligible voters may cast up to three votes for candidates (cumulative voting) and distribute their votes among candidates from different slates (parties and voter groups) (split voting). If, however, only a single slate is approved, the election is held according to the principles of a majority vote. The term of office is five years; the next local elections will take place in 2031.

On May 6, 2020, the Hessian State Parliament passed the Act on Improving the Political Participation of Foreign Residents in Local Politics and on Amending Local Government and Electoral Regulations, which entered into force on May 16, 2020. Accordingly, elections to the Foreign Residents’ Advisory Council will in future be held concurrently with the general local elections.
