Spring quarter

Numerous small bathhouses in Wiesbaden's spring district, which were fed by the thermal springs and their secondary sources, formed the core of the city's early spa facilities from the late Middle Ages onwards.

When the number of spa guests increased in the 18th century and with it the demand for hotel accommodation, the expansion of the small bathhouses in the cramped Quellenviertel was limited by space. The large hotels such as the Nassauer Hof or the Hotel Rose were built on the edge of the quarter. In place of the first bathhouses in the Quellenviertel, the 19th century bathing proprietors built smaller hotels, which were often fed from the secondary springs.

The Quellenviertel was largely destroyed in an air raid in February 1945. It took until the 1950s for the owners and the city to agree on a joint basic plan for the reconstruction based on plans by architect Rudolf Dörr. This was followed by the development of Webergasse, Burgstrasse, An den Quellen and Langgasse. More and more commercial buildings completed the image of the Quellenviertel as well as residential buildings, e.g. the Vier Jahreszeiten apartment building built in 1956-58 on the site of the former Hotel Vierjahreszeiten. The buildings in Webergasse, built according to Dörr's plans, have been listed buildings since the end of the 1980s.

Due to the redesign of the pedestrian zone and numerous new modern buildings, the Quellenviertel is still undergoing constant change today.
