Conversion of foreign driving licenses (non-EU/EEA)
With a valid driving license issued outside the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA), motor vehicles may be driven up to six months after establishing permanent residence in Germany. After that, an EU card driver's license must be issued. A theoretical and practical test to obtain an EU driving license is required for some countries.
A personal interview is required to apply for an EU driving license. The foreign driving license will be confiscated when the EU driving license is issued.
