November 8, 2026, 7:00 p.m.: Outrar: Calixto Nero / Voa & Volmir Cordeiro / Donna Volcan
On Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 7 p.m., the Hessian State Ballet will present "Outrar: Calixto Nero / Voa & Volmir Cordeiro / Donna Volcan" as part of the Rhine-Main Dance Festival.
Inspired by the Portuguese word “Outrar” (meaning “to become someone else”), this double bill brings together two choreographic responses to questions of identity, otherness, and transformation. The project was initiated by Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues, who invited several Brazilian artists living in Europe to develop their own versions of “Outrar,” each based on a shared soundtrack, a collection of movement exercises, and an exchange conducted remotely.
In his version, Calixto Neto focuses on bodies perceived as foreign, deviant, or invisible, and explores the potential inherent in this social attribution and its questioning. Volmir Cordeiro, on the other hand, understands transformation as a process of metamorphosis. Through gestures, figures, and shifting identities, a interplay emerges between joy, nostalgia, and the longing for another place. Starting from the same point, both works develop their own choreographic approaches. Together, they open an evening that conceives of transformation not as an exception, but as a fundamental human experience.
As part of the RheinMain Dance Festival.
