The state capital Wiesbaden is a cosmopolitan city. Around 75,300 foreign nationals live, study and work here - the Foreigners' Registration Office is responsible for their legal residency issues.

The Foreigners' Registration Office is the specialist office for all questions relating to the entry and residence of foreign nationals - as well as for all questions relating to residence law. The staff at the Foreigners' Registration Office will advise you on your concerns and help you with the formalities.

The Employment Immigration Service (opens in a new tab) is there for you especially for the recruitment of skilled workers from abroad and advises and supports Wiesbaden companies.

Current

  • Passport photos (ID photos)

    From August 1, 2025 , only digital passport photos will be accepted. Printed photos on paper are no longer permitted. Further information under News and updates.

  • Ukraine

    All residence permits for refugees from Ukraine that are valid on February 1, 2026 will be automatically extended until March 4, 2027.

    Refugees do not need to visit the Foreigners' Registration Office to extend their residence permits. It is not necessary to submit an application or make contact.

  • National passports of the Russian Federation, change from January 1, 2026

    The Russian Federation currently issues both biometric and non-biometric passports. From 1 January 2026, only biometric passports will be recognized in Germany.

    Exception: Your residence permit was issued in conjunction with a non-biometric passport. In this case, your non-biometric passport will be recognized until this residence permit expires.
