Basics of noise abatement planning
The EU Directive 2002/49/EC defines a concept for the reduction of environmental noise. It was transposed into German law in 2005 and enshrined in Sections 47a-f of the Federal Immission Control Act.
Two main instruments are available for noise abatement planning:
- noise mapping to determine exposure and
- noise action planning to regulate noise problems and noise impacts.
