Legal office
The Legal Department is the internal legal department of the state capital of Wiesbaden. The Legal Department does not offer general legal advice to persons outside the city administration.
The Legal Department's legal advisors represent the city in court and advise municipal committees, departments, specialist offices, and municipal enterprises on all legal matters. The Legal Department's tasks also include drafting contracts and assisting in the enactment of legal regulations (ordinances, statutes, and administrative instructions). The Legal Department is also the right point of contact for questions relating to municipal law.
In addition, the Legal Department houses the office of the Appeals Committee of the State Capital of Wiesbaden. If the Appeals Committee holds a hearing in appeal proceedings against administrative acts of the mayor or the magistrate, the legal advisors of the Legal Department represent the mayor as chair. This applies to appeals received until February 11, 2026; for appeals received after that date, no hearing procedure will take place.
The Legal Department is responsible for the official data protection officer of the state capital of Wiesbaden. All citizens have the opportunity to contact the data protection officer if they have any questions about how the state capital of Wiesbaden handles their personal data.
The Legal Department's other tasks include providing the arbitration offices and local courts with the necessary equipment and organizing elections for arbitration office and local court members.
