Legal office
The Legal Department is the internal legal division of the State Capital of Wiesbaden. The Legal Department does not provide general legal advice to individuals outside the city administration.
The legal advisors of the Legal Department represent the city in court and advise municipal committees, departments, specialized offices, and municipal enterprises on all legal matters. The Legal Office’s responsibilities also include drafting contracts and assisting in the enactment of legal regulations (ordinances, statutes, and administrative directives). The Legal Office is also the appropriate point of contact for questions regarding municipal law.
In addition, the Legal Department houses the office of the Appeals Committee of the State Capital of Wiesbaden. If a hearing is held by the Appeals Committee in appeals proceedings against administrative acts of the Mayor or the City Council, the legal advisors of the Legal Department represent the Mayor as chairperson. This applies to appeals received by February 11, 2026; for appeals received after that date, no hearing procedure will take place.
The Legal Department is responsible for the State Capital of Wiesbaden’s official data protection officer. All citizens have the opportunity to contact the data protection officer with questions regarding the State Capital of Wiesbaden’s handling of their personal data.
The Legal Department’s other responsibilities include providing the necessary equipment for the arbitration offices and local courts, as well as organizing elections for members of the arbitration offices and local courts.
