Jina Khayyer: Our hearts are one
As part of the "Ins Offene" literature festival, the Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden is presenting poems and drawings by writer, poet and painter Jina Khayyer from June 24 to 28. Anyone interested is cordially invited to the opening on June 23 at 7 pm.
In her multifaceted body of work, Khayyer engages with concepts of origin, identity, heritage, and gender, exploring the existential challenge of not being torn apart by these tensions. Images and texts from the poetry cycle *Our Hearts Are One* will be on display at the Nassauischer Kunstverein during the literature festival. This cycle was created in parallel with her work on her debut novel *Im Herzen der Katze* (Suhrkamp Verlag, 2025), for which Khayyer was nominated for the German Book Prize and awarded the Mara Cassens Prize.
Khayyer’s multilingualism is reflected in her poetry: she writes in English, French, and German. Although the artist speaks Persian fluently, she can neither read nor write the language. She addresses this unique circumstance in her poetry cycle by painting the meanings of Persian words in her images.
