ID and Passport Photos IMPORTANT NOTICE

Due to a lack of certifications for the photo cloud specified by Bundesdruckerei, ID and passport photos from many private photo studios cannot be processed.

The Federal Printing Office rejects these photos.

Therefore, we urge you to check with your photographer to ensure that they have current certification.

We cannot guarantee that photos taken by private providers will be accepted, nor will we cover any associated costs.

If processing is not possible, the photo can be taken at the Citizens’ Office for a fee of 6.00 EUR.

We therefore strongly recommend that you inquire in advance or have the photo taken at our office.

A provisional passport is issued to German citizens only in specific, exceptional cases. For example, if a passport is needed immediately and a regular passport cannot be issued in time for its first use. The urgency must be substantiated in writing. 

To apply for a provisional passport, you must be registered in Wiesbaden as your primary residence. If you are not registered in Wiesbaden as your primary residence, you must provide compelling reasons why the application must be filed in Wiesbaden. 

Applications for a provisional passport for individuals under the age of 18 must generally be submitted by both legal guardians. The place of residence of the legal guardians is irrelevant in this context. If one legal guardian is unable to appear in person, a declaration of consentPDF-File86,73 kB must be submitted. The original document is not required, but a copy of the person’s identification must be provided. The passport can only be issued to the custodial parent who submitted the application (alone) if the written consent of the absent custodial parent is submitted at the time of pickup.  The child must also be present at the time of application.
