Facilities and companies in accordance with Section 36 (1) of the Infection Protection Act, e.g. crèches, kindergartens, schools, homeless shelters, refugee shelters, prisons and other mass accommodation, must define internal infection hygiene procedures in hygiene plans and are subject to infection hygiene monitoring by the public health department.

Employees of the public health department visit the facilities and companies - even unannounced - to check whether the hygiene rules are being observed. The costs of the inspections are calculated according to the Hessian scale of fees and are to be borne by the facilities and companies.
