Civil servants in the intermediate fire department form the backbone of the Wiesbaden professional fire department. They are mainly deployed in the emergency services, where they take on responsible tasks - from working in the team to acting as vehicle drivers.

Activity in the intermediate fire department
The day-to-day work is varied and structured. In addition to operational readiness, there are fixed components such as work shifts in the in-house workshops, regular training units, sport to maintain physical fitness and on-call times. This ensures that the team is optimally prepared at all times.
During operations, our colleagues are on the move in various vehicles - be it the fire engine, the turntable ladder or one of our special vehicles. The tasks range from firefighting and technical assistance to rescuing people and animals. Every operation is different and requires specialist knowledge, teamwork and quick decisions.
Another interesting field of activity is working as an operations officer in the central control center. Here they receive emergency calls, coordinate alarms and initiate the right measures.
The intermediate firefighting service thus combines varied operations, manual and technical work, physical fitness and teamwork. Anyone who enjoys helping other people, mastering technology and acting together with colleagues in an emergency will find an exciting and meaningful job here - right at the heart of fire department work.

YOUR references
The remuneration of a civil servant consists of the basic salary, the family allowance and allowances.
In the first few years, the "fire chief" receives remuneration according to salary group A7.
Since 01.02.2025, this has been gross monthly*:
Starting basic salary A 7 level 1
2762,63 €
and
Family allowance, married
163,13 €
Family allowance, married, with 1 child
412,63 €
Family allowance, married, with 2 children
662,13 €
For the third and each additional child to be taken into account, the family allowance increases by € 764.66.
In addition, the civil servant receives a position allowance of € 25.38, a state salary component of € 142.13 and, after one year, a fire department allowance of € 80.00. After a further year, the fire department allowance increases to € 160.00. Compensation of around € 230.00 per month is paid for "service at inconvenient times" (nights, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays).
The salary is only reduced by the wage tax to be paid, the solidarity surcharge and, if applicable, the church tax. As the civil servant is not subject to social security contributions, voluntary health and long-term care insurance should be taken out with a substitute health insurance fund or a private health insurance company.
The City of Wiesbaden also offers its employees the following benefits:
Comprehensive voluntary social benefits to maintain and promote health (e.g. discounts for fitness studios)
A comprehensive training program for personal and professional development
Use of the "corporate benefits" and "benefits.me" benefits platforms with attractive deals and discounts from well-known brands and companies

YOUR development and promotion opportunities
With appropriate performance and attendance of various courses, promotion up to grade A 9 with an official allowance is possible. In special cases, promotion without examination to the higher service is also possible; in this case, a classification up to grade A 11 is achievable.
If the requirements under civil service law are met and the city has sufficient budget funds available, a promotion from fire chief to senior fire chief (grade A 8) can take place at the earliest one year after completion of the probationary period. This promotion is generally provided for if the general conditions permit.
In addition, civil servants in the intermediate operational service can be admitted to the higher operational service career path if they are particularly suitable and after completing a preparatory course.
