On Saturday, September 5, author and blues musician Rónán Hession from Dublin will be our guest. At 7:30 p.m., he will present his novel “Panenka.” Andrea O’Brien, who also translated the novel into German, will moderate and provide translation for the evening. Actor Stéphane Bittoun will read the German passages, while the duo Doubletop will create an Irish atmosphere with banjo, fiddle, and vocals. The event is organized by the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine/Wiesbaden Cultural Office in cooperation with the Consulate General of Ireland in Frankfurt. Rónán Hession gained international recognition with his acclaimed debut novel *Leonard and Paul*. In *Panenka*, it is a missed penalty kick that has haunted former professional soccer player Joseph for years. Now 50 years old, he feels like the town’s scapegoat and is plagued by severe headaches. Yet the novel deals only tangentially with soccer; it is actually about the possibilities of love—if one can muster the courage to open up.
