New Neighborhood with About 300 Apartments and Healthcare Facilities in Bierstadt

A new, vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood is to be developed in Bierstadt, east of Leibnizstraße. At its meeting on Tuesday, October 27, the City Council of Wiesbaden forwarded the draft to the local advisory councils for further discussion.

The zoning plan establishes the legal requirements for implementing the neighborhood development and will next be submitted to the political bodies for a decision.

Mayor and Head of Urban Planning Christiane Hinninger says: “The development east of Leibnizstraße offers the opportunity to create a new neighborhood on a site that is already built up and well-integrated, combining housing, local amenities, and healthcare services. In doing so, we place a high priority on sustainable urban development with attractive open spaces.”

With the approximately 3.5-hectare planning area, the closure of the former clinic on Bingert has made land available for urban development in an integrated location. Approximately 298 apartments are planned, including both market-rate and subsidized units. The housing offerings will be complemented by a daycare center.

In addition, space and buildings will be set aside for private practitioners, therapists, and midwives, as well as for therapy and rehabilitation facilities and senior living and nursing homes. This is intended to sustainably strengthen Bierstadt as a healthcare hub while simultaneously creating urgently needed housing. The new neighborhood will feature small-scale development and include open spaces that are pleasant to spend time in, as well as a dense network of paths to ensure good connectivity to the surrounding area.
