Citizens who hold a German identity card or eID card can use its online identification feature. This allows you, for example, to verify your identity online when dealing with government agencies.

You can reset your PIN for using the electronic ID at any time:

• as often as you like at home, or
• if you’ve forgotten your PIN or it’s been locked after three incorrect attempts, online (opens in a new tab), at the Citizens’ Office, or at a local administration office.

We are happy to assist you in person, but we operate exclusively by appointment. Book an appointment quickly and easily online through the calendar at the Citizens’ Office or the local administrative offices.
