Species protection for construction projects

Swifts, goldfinches and grass snakes - these and many other birds, bats and small mammals require special protection when renovating and constructing new buildings. The brochure "Species protection in construction projects" describes how this can be achieved and which species protection regulations must be complied with.

A modern detached house surrounded by plants and birds, entitled "Species protection in building projects". It shows the combination of timber and rendered façade and nesting opportunities for birds in the façade.

The brochure offers technical and legal assistance for the application of species protection law in construction projects, as the early integration of species protection concerns can considerably simplify the planning process and construction work and at the same time serve the diversity of our urban wildlife.

The legal regulations for the protection of species and habitats as well as the breeding seasons that apply to planned tree felling and hedge clearance are described in more detail. How to proceed if animal species with special protection status are affected is also described, as is nature-friendly site clearance and the planning of artificial nesting and roosting aids for swifts, bats or house sparrows. An overview describes the appropriate time to demolish a building if animal roosters have been identified.

The brochure is available from the Umweltladen and can be downloaded as a PDF document at the bottom of the page.
