Vulnerability analysis for Wiesbaden
The study shows in which areas of the city of Wiesbaden an increased heat load is to be expected and how high the proportion of particularly sensitive people such as small children or very old people is in these areas.
Vulnerability means sensitivity or vulnerability. The use of the term has its origins in geography and research into natural hazards. Settlement areas with a high population density and a high proportion of heat-sensitive people (e.g. small children or very old people) are particularly sensitive to heat. If a high heat load occurs in these areas, the risk of health effects is particularly high.
In the vulnerability analysis, the number of tropical nights is used as an indicator of heat stress. Tropical nights are nights in which the air temperature does not fall below 20 degrees Celsius. Recreation is restricted on these nights. In particular, a high building density and a high degree of sealing promote the overheating of the city at night. This makes intact cold air conduits and cooling green spaces in the urban area all the more important.
