In Dotzheim, viticulture has been documented since 1275 and has experienced an upswing since the 1980s thanks to the modern methods of young, well-trained winegrowers, particularly in terms of quality. To this day, the quality of the wine is officially documented: There are quality wines from certain growing regions (b. A.), Kabinett wines and Spätlese wines, but also higher qualities. Ice wines have also been harvested from the site. In addition to Riesling and Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Cabernet Sauvignon and Silvaner are also cultivated. The 3.5-hectare "Dozzemer Juddekersch" urban site is classified entirely as a first growth.
Site name, soil structure and wine characters
Dotzheimer Judenkirch
The name of the location is derived from the Jewish cherry (Physalis Alkekengi). As the Rheingau people find it difficult to pronounce "ch" and "sch" in colloquial speech, this is how the name came about.
The soils are loess loam, clay and marl. The wines are soil-oriented with a steely acidity.
