About the Industry Skills Initiative
WI WORK LIFE | Industry is the skilled labor initiative specifically for industrial companies in Wiesbaden.
Broad base and direct contact
The Department of Economic Affairs and Employment works with partners to develop and coordinate measures to secure skilled workers in the industry. The aim is to support companies in recruiting skilled workers with networking opportunities, events and exchange formats.
For industrial companies, we offer
- Transparency and orientation on career guidance and qualification offers
- Knowledge transfer and exchange on recruiting topics
- Joint projects to connect employers and applicants looking for jobs
- Public relations work on attractive employers in the industry
Our core partners are associations, organizations, initiatives and authorities. This creates transparency in the variety of offers, bundles knowledge and enables networking. Our partners are:
- HR managers from industrial companies in Wiesbaden
- IHK Wiesbaden
- Rhine-Main University of Applied Sciences
- Fresenius University of Applied Sciences
- Wiesbaden Employment Agency
- Municipal job center
- School social work and OloV
- Vereinigung hessischer Unternehmerverbände e.V. - Wiesbaden Rheingau-Taunus office
- Fachkräfte für Hessen staff unit at the Hessian Ministry of Labor, Integration, Youth and Social Affairs
- Institute for Economy, Work and Culture (IWAK) at Goethe University Frankfurt
- and many others
WI WORK LIFE | Industry is primarily aimed at local industrial companies. Together, we develop needs-oriented measures to help them find skilled workers.
Our key questions are:
- What do companies need to secure skilled workers?
- Who do they need?
- How can we support companies in this?
We obtain answers to these questions through direct contact with companies in our exchange formats, for example in the Industry Skilled Workers Initiative Forum.
Fields of action set the pace
The Industry Skilled Workers Initiative pursues six fields of action. They are aimed at the target groups of school pupils and trainees, students, employees and skilled workers. They also take into account the needs of companies. The fields of action are the common thread along which targeted measures are developed and implemented. The fields of action are
- Career from school to work
- Careers from university to work
- Qualification
- Recruitment support
- Marketing for the location and the skilled labor initiative
- Networking
"Smiths Detection Germany in Wiesbaden-Erbenheim very much welcomes the Wiesbaden Industry Skills Initiative. More and more companies in Germany are simultaneously accessing a shrinking pool of workers with specialist knowledge when filling vacancies. As a company, we appreciate the fact that the city sees this need and is doing its utmost to support "its" companies in their search through targeted initiatives and the establishment of networks. This can help to secure the future of our company - and is also a good advertisement for the city, perhaps as a future home for people who move here for a job. So it's a win-win situation for everyone involved."
(Manuela Witt, Head of Corporate Communications at Smiths Detection)
Attractive employer industry
WI WORK LIFE | Industry also aims to provide guidance for citizens, apprenticeship and job seekers and to draw their attention to the exciting, attractive job opportunities in industry. After all, it is not only the large and well-known companies that are attractive employers, but also the small and medium-sized companies, some of which are owner-managed. They score points with short distances to executives and management, flat hierarchies and a family atmosphere. What all industrial companies in Wiesbaden have in common is that they offer exciting, varied and secure jobs close to home. Commuting is a thing of the past!
Skilled labor initiative with momentum
Back in October 2021, the Department of Economic Affairs and Employment launched an online survey among industrial companies on the skilled labor situation - the first building block for the skilled labor initiative. This was followed by three consecutive workshops with companies and core partners in March, April and May 2022 to jointly develop needs and recommendations for action for a skilled labor initiative. This resulted in the concept for the skilled worker initiative, which is constantly being developed and adapted. The WI WORK LIFE | Industry brand was developed in 2023.
