Birth on the B42 - dispatcher from Wiesbaden control center directs birth
This Thursday afternoon, a healthy baby was born on the Bundesstraße 42 near Wiesbaden - in the back seat of a car. The delivery was surprising but calm and was supported by telephone by a dispatcher from the Wiesbaden Integrated Control Center. Mother and child are doing well.
The emergency call was received by the control center at 4:23 pm. A 29-year-old woman from Rüdesheim and her husband were on their way to a clinic in Wiesbaden for a planned birth when the contractions started unexpectedly quickly - just before the Frauenstein junction on the B42.
The dispatcher on duty, Philipp Marquardt, recognized the situation immediately and calmly and competently guided the expectant father with the help of the standardized ProQA query protocol. He took his wife to the back seat and followed the instructions with remarkable calm - while the traffic around them continued to move.
Just three minutes after the telephone instructions began, the baby girl was born - even before the emergency services arrived. The first powerful cry relieved the tension for everyone involved: mother and child were well.
At the same time, the control center dispatched two ambulances, an emergency medical vehicle and the Wiesbaden fire department to the scene to secure the traffic. First aid was administered at the scene, after which the mother and newborn were safely transported to the hospital in Wiesbaden.
Thanks to the level-headed and professional support provided by Philipp Marquardt, the birth was able to take place safely under exceptional circumstances - a fine example of the important work of the control centers in the background.
The young family from Rüdesheim will certainly never forget this day - and the extraordinary birthplace.
