Mayor of the Federal Capital of Vienna, Felix Slavik
On May 8, 1971, the mayor of the federal capital of Vienna, Felix Slavik, signed the Golden Book of the city of Wiesbaden.
Felix Slavik was born in Vienna on May 3, 1912 and worked in his profession as a precision mechanic until the end of the Second World War. Even as a teenager, he joined trade union organizations, which formed the basis of his political commitment to the Austrian Social Democratic Party.
In 1945, he was already appointed as the leading city councillor for housing in Vienna, before becoming a member of the Federal Council in 1946 and a member of the National Council for eight years in 1949. He served as City Councillor for Finance and Deputy Mayor of Vienna for twelve years before being elected as the new mayor of his home city on December 21, 1970.
Mayor Schmitt welcomed him in this capacity on May 8, 1971 in the ballroom of City Hall and paid tribute to him as a great Social Democrat. The Austrian thanked him for his warm welcome and then signed the city's Golden Book. Two years later, he lost the support of his party and withdrew from political life.
Slavik died on October 6, 1980 in his hometown of Vienna.
