For equal pay: "Equal Pay Day" 2025 on March 7 Wiesbaden

Equal Pay Day falls on March 7 in 2025. Women would have to work from January 1, 2024, beyond the turn of the year until March 7, 2025, to achieve the same average annual income that men already received on December 31, 2024. The persistent gender pay gap is a key issue on the road to equality.

To mark "Equal Pay Day" 2025, the city of Wiesbaden is hosting a campaign in the foyer of the town hall. Citizens will have the opportunity to find out about the causes of the pay gap, share their experiences and campaign for equal pay.

Current figures show that the average pay gap between women and men in Germany is 16 percent. This difference means that women would have to work more than two months longer than men to earn the same annual income.

Most recently, the pay gap has fallen by two percentage points compared to the previous year - the largest decrease since the surveys began in 2006. "This positive development must be continued," demands Mayor Christiane Hinninger. There is still a lot to be done to eliminate the structural causes of wage inequality. Women are still less likely to be in management positions or well-paid full-time jobs. Sectors with traditionally lower wages disproportionately employ women. "With this campaign, we want to send out a signal that women and men must receive the same pay for the same work," says the mayor.

"Equal Pay Day reminds us how important it is to continue to fight for equal rights at all levels. It is a task for all of us to work to further reduce the pay gap and create a fairer future for everyone," adds Saskia Veit-Prang, Municipal Women's Representative.
