New accessible entrance area at the Konradinerallee administrative office
As of Tuesday, August 4, the facility at Konradinerallee 11 has a new, accessible reception area. Visitors to the Social Services and Job Center as well as the Office of Social Work will now benefit from a modern, well-organized, and easily accessible entrance area. At the same time, working conditions have improved for staff at the central reception desk, which now includes four connected consultation stations.
Planning for the project began as early as June 2025 under the leadership of the new administrative department, which is organizationally assigned to the Social Services and Job Center. Together with colleagues from the Safety Engineering Department, the Representative Body for People with Severe Disabilities, the municipal IT service provider Wivertis, the property management company Apleona, WiBau GmbH (which, since its founding in October 2012, has operated as a municipal company providing construction and facility management services for the state capital of Wiesbaden), the Hessian State Welfare Association (LWV Hessen), and the fire safety department, a comprehensive plan was developed. The renovation was completed within three months of the project’s start.
From the very beginning, accessibility was at the heart of the planning. The goal was to create a reception area that provides everyone with natural and as unrestricted access as possible—regardless of physical limitations or individual needs. At the same time, the aim was to create a modern workspace that meets the needs of the staff. This goal was successfully achieved.
The new reception area offers numerous improvements. These include an additional consultation station, sound-absorbing elements for more pleasant room acoustics, consultation spaces that comply with data protection regulations, and an open and welcoming design. Visitors will find it easier to navigate the building in the future and will quickly receive the information they need to reach their contacts in the building, which houses more than 500 offices.
“Accessibility is not an extra—it is a prerequisite for a public administration that is open to everyone. With the new reception area, we are creating a space that combines clear wayfinding with good working conditions. This benefits both citizens and our employees,” says Dr. Patricia Becher, Head of the Social Affairs Department.
The Department of Social Affairs is also particularly pleased with the financial support provided by the Hessian State Welfare Association (LWV Hessen), which funded the accessibility renovation.
The staff of the departments involved, as well as external partners, have contributed significantly to the project’s success through their expertise and great dedication.
“A project of this magnitude can only be realized through collaboration. That is why I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone involved,” says Dr. Patricia Becher, Head of the Social Affairs Department. With the new reception area, the state capital of Wiesbaden is sending a clear signal in favor of greater inclusion and citizen-friendliness. The renovation combines accessibility, functionality, and a modern work environment—and demonstrates how a government office can be designed to be equally accessible to everyone.
