Äpplerfest at Mauritiusplatz for the First Time: Wiesbaden Celebrates the Apple
Wiesbaden is once again hosting its apple festival: On Friday, October 9, and Saturday, October 10, the Äpplerfest will take place for the fifth time—this year for the first time at Mauritiusplatz.
From 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. each day, visitors can look forward to a varied program featuring music, culinary delights, interesting facts about apples, and numerous hands-on activities for all ages.
“The Äpplerfest combines regional culinary culture, the Wiesbaden way of life, and a varied program—right in the heart of downtown. This year, the festival has a new, central location at Mauritiusplatz. “I’m delighted that we can invite visitors to the city center with music, hands-on activities, and Hessian specialties, while at the same time allowing them to experience the great diversity of all things apple,” says City Councilwoman Daniela Georgi.
On both days of the event, a diverse stage program will provide entertainment. On Friday, André Coluccelli will perform, among others; the program also includes a presentation by the Heinz Schenk Foundation and a cooking show by Kochatelier65 under the theme “Apple Meets Atelier—Hessian, Modern, Surprising.” Die Tiefgespritzten will provide musical entertainment throughout the afternoon and evening. An apple tasting with Hof Erbenheim, as well as a Hessian product tasting featuring typical Hessian specialties such as Grüne Soße and Handkäs', round out the program.
On Saturday, the Männerquartett Nordend and the Moosbach-Kehlchen will perform popular hits, followed by musical entertainment from Evas Apfel, Captain Bembel & die Feingerippte, and others.
Another highlight is the apple cake contest on Saturday afternoon. Together with the Apple Royalty, the submitted cakes will be judged and the winners honored. Afterward, guests will have the opportunity to get to know the Apple Royalty better. The organizers are still looking for amateur bakers who would like to contribute a homemade apple cake to the competition. Those interested can register at eventpalastpromotionde.
Culinary highlights over the two days will also revolve around apples and Hessian specialties. Various cider mills and vendors will present, among other things, apple wine, apple secco, juices, and non-alcoholic options. There will also be specialties such as variations on “Handkäs’” and apple fritters. Even Basque apple wine, known as “sidra,” will be featured by the San Sebastián Sister City Association. Various apple varieties and exhibits showcasing how the fruit is processed will also offer insights into the diversity of local fruit cultivation.
There’s also plenty for children to discover on both days. In addition to face painting, “Das Sahnehäubchen” invites kids to get creative with various hands-on activities, games, and crafts.
The Äpplerfest is organized by Wiesbaden Congress & Marketing GmbH (WICM) on behalf of City Management.
