Language and cultural mediation

Logo Language and cultural mediation Wiesbaden

Volunteer language and cultural mediators (opens in a new tab) help social, educational and healthcare institutions as well as public authorities in Wiesbaden to communicate with citizens without sufficient knowledge of German. Since 2010, this has enormously lowered the threshold for arrivals. This is not just about translating from one language into German and vice versa, but also about socio-cultural mediation. This means that culturally sensitive explanations of social and cultural backgrounds and country-specific differences are also part of the work of language and cultural mediators. They have a sound basic knowledge of social systems and are interculturally trained. They are also bound by confidentiality and are committed to data protection and impartiality.

By offering language and cultural mediation, professionals and migrants alike receive support for culturally sensitive, targeted communication.

Language and cultural mediation services can only be commissioned by authorities, institutions and facilities and are provided by wif e.V. - Begegnung & Beratung (opens in a new tab).
