14th FIT KID certificate award ceremony for municipal daycare centers

Once again this year, the municipal daycare centers in the state capital of Wiesbaden have proven that they provide "their" children with high-quality meals. For the 14th time in a row, 14 facilities - representing 42 - received the coveted FIT KID certificate.

Dr. Ulrike Kreinhoff from the German Nutrition Society (Hesse section) presented the eagerly awaited test results: "An average of an outstanding 98.6 percent. The city of Wiesbaden can be proud: out of 666 certified daycare centers nationwide, 66 are located in Hesse, 51 of which are in Wiesbaden alone. Here, the 42 municipal facilities make up the lion's share."

Dr. Patricia Becher, Head of Social Affairs, opened the ceremony under the motto "I like it - nutrition concept with a plus". Eating and drinking in the daycare center not only provides for the body, but also means diverse education around the dining table and also serves the social-emotional well-being of the children. It was also important for her to emphasize that the municipal daycare centres in the state capital of Wiesbaden continue to be pioneers in the area of health-promoting nutrition for the city's children. "Everyone involved can be proud of this".

Thomas Scheffler, Head of the Daycare and Childcare Department, emphasized: "Our concept takes a holistic approach to nutrition." It's not just about getting enough to eat, but about "shaping taste" and pedagogical nutritional education, which lays the foundation for healthy eating habits. The professional and passionate commitment of the home economics teams is key to making this happen. Rabia Erciyes, home economist, and Merhunisa Vella, deputy manager of the Wallufer Platz daycare center, gave a concrete insight into everyday catering. "We have to plan and organize specifically so that everything runs smoothly the next day, even if someone falls ill," says Rabia Erciyes. After all, there are not only countless kilos of fresh potatoes and vegetables to wash, clean and cut. Special meals are also taken into account, such as food for children with allergies. Just how worthwhile this effort is can be seen in the small successes: when children discover fish or lentil soup as a favorite food, when parents ask for recipes and cook something new, or when a child who eats very selectively suddenly likes something new.

Stephanie Fromme, nutrition specialist in the daycare and childcare department, emphasized once again that "the plus" of the nutrition concept stands for much more than just the certification: the fresh cooking on site with regional food, the personal commitment of the housekeepers, who represent a special connection to the children and families, but also the management staff as a bridge between catering and pedagogy. "Catering and nutrition education are inseparable - they go hand in hand." The film "Mir schmeckt's" also offered a lively insight into the nutritional concept of the municipal facilities.
