Citizens who hold a German ID card or eID card can use its online ID function. This allows you, for example, to verify your identity online when dealing with government agencies.

You can reset your PIN for using the electronic ID at any time:

• as often as you like at home, or
• if the PIN has been forgotten or blocked after three incorrect entries, at the Citizens’ Office or a local administration office.

At the Citizen Service Center or a local administration office, you will receive assistance free of charge if

• your online ID is deactivated,
• you can no longer find your PIN letter with the temporary PIN,
• you have forgotten your PIN, or
• the PIN is blocked.
